Orkesstra Ref 1A - Hair Up by DoNotDelete Orkesstra Ref 1A - Hair Up by DoNotDelete
Finished reference sheet (contracted osmotic gills/bikini) for Orkesstra Korona.

Orkesstra (or Kess for short) is the female lead in the first iteration of the STRAY HELIX™ saga, and plays a major role throughout the entire story.

Her species is 'orkasaur'. As far as she knows she's the last remaining member of her kind - her mother died when she was very young, but before long she found herself in the care of another family who, although of different species, cared for her as their own.

Biologically, she's built to live both on land, and in water - but the most water she's ever seen in one place would only fill a bathtub... so she's never learned to swim - and has an irrational fear of large bodies of water!

The arrangement of horns on her head allows her to generate acute sonic waves capable of causing damage if she can achieve the correct harmonic frequency. Orkesstra isn't very good at doing this at first, but with practice she can produce devastating sonic shockwaves (the power of these shockwaves is magnified in water).

The armoured fins on her forearms allow her to fire organic projectile shells using compressed air - the compressed air is generated by symbiotic bacteria within the fins themselves.

Her height is 222cm, so she stands head and shoulders above the average human male (this includes the male lead character, who is human - to be revealed at a later date). There's a mannequin in the reference sheet for the sake of height comparison.

Orkesstra normally wears more clothes than this but I haven't had a chance to draw her full clothing/armour up yet - I also haven't decided if I'm going to submit the nude version of this yet.

Hm... interesting...
I like the description and who you made her reference. Congrats! ^^
And, do you want to talk more about this STRAY HELIX™? Pretend to make a comic?

STRAY HELIX™ is more important to me than the funny comics, if that's what your asking.

I'm still doing funny comics though.

Oh, well... I'll get around to doing the STRAY HELIX™ comic/manga eventually...

I still have a lot of reference sheets like this to do before I can start illustrating the STRAY HELIX™ comic/manga.

This is absolutely beautiful work, DND. I see you've tweaked the colours to be just a bit brighter, and it helps bring out the depth of the shadows. Speaking of which, the shading is complex and subtle, highlighting the natural curves of the body in a way that few artists can accomplish without bombarding the viewer with focal points. Not to mention, the anatomy is consistent and well thought-out.

The chains of DNA in the background make for a great theme, also. It's been a joy to observe how your artistic style has improved so very much lately. Projectiles were a nice touch, alongside the abridged description.

The colours on the preview version which I submitted a month ago were just basic fill colours, without any highlighting or shading. This version has gradient colouring combined with gradient highlights. The shadows are only a single colour transparency, but I find that works best with gradient coloured pieces.

The DNA chain thing is probably going to be a recurring background motif for the artwork of this series - the theme for the STRAY HELIX™ saga is heavily grounded in biology and genetics.

Thanks Dreilex. I always appreciate your considered comments.

Not much to say from what I said before. The character is slightly vague, but still well descriptive. (My apologies for not reading that sooner.)
